Celebrating our Volunteers

4/30/2008

National Volunteer week was celebrated April 27th - May 2nd.  The FHOM/FHO Volunteers were treated to a luncheon at the Palmetto Club, sponsored by FHOM. During the event, three volunteers received special achievement awards. Haley Myers was named Teenage Volunteer (TAV) of the year and the recipient of the Shirley Sliwa Honorarium which carries a $1,500 award.  Haley is a graduating senior at Seabreeze High who has volunteered in the Pinkadilly Resale Shop.  The auxilians there describe her as an "energetic young lady who is a pleasure to work with."  Haley plans to attend DBC and go on to a four year school majoring in Business and/or Public Relations/Marketing.

Janet Allten joined the Auxiliary in 1989 and her application indicates her volunteer background goes back even further than that with other facilities.  For a while she worked on the 6th floor, but most of her time has been volunteering at the Information Desk. Janet was recognized for achieving the level of 5,000 hours of donated hours.

Ruth Schnabl joined the Auxiliary in 1967, so she’s been an active auxiliary member for 41 years! She has worked in the Gift Shop all of the time, with added hours helping out with the payroll deduct process at the various vendor sales.  Ruth is also one of the knitters who volunteers that special talent of making items to send home with our newborns and items for our Hospice and cancer patients.  Ruth was recognized for achieving the level of 20,000 hours of donated time.
