Center for Senior Behavioral Health

(386) 671-5078
The Center for Senior Behavioral Health, located at Florida Hospital Oceanside, is a specialized 13-bed voluntary, inpatient behavioral health unit for individuals’ age 65 and older experiencing emotional or behavioral issues. Throughout the aging process, seniors may need assistance dealing with issues of loss, illness, depression, decreased functioning, coping with stressful situations or sudden onset of confusion, agitation, disorientation or memory problems.
The Center for Senior Behavioral Health is based on a medical model of treatment and championed by a Psychiatrist. In addition to the Psychiatrist, the behavioral health treatment team consists of trained psychiatric registered nurses who staff the unit 24/7 and a Master’s level Social Worker. Other team members include occupational therapy, recreation therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, patient-care technicians as well as family members and caregivers. As seniors may have medical illnesses in addition to their emotional or behavioral health issues, all persons treated in the Center for Senior Behavioral Health will be followed by a Medical Consultant to ensure their physical health needs are met. All persons accepted for treatment at the Center will be medically cleared before admission to the unit.
Referrals may be made by physicians, professionals, family, patients, etc. A free confidential screening can be conducted on anyone interested in possible admission to the Center. Screenings can be performed in the person’s home, physician’s office, emergency room, assisted living residence or skilled nursing facility. Persons meeting the admission criteria must be willing to be actively involved in the treatment process in order to be accepted for admission.
